Course content
|
Lectures: 1) Introduction to the field (history and present, interdisciplinary position, health issues and its definition, health literacy as part of the health system), World Health Organization, European Union, preventive projects, strategies, health policies WHO and EU , goals, structure, implementation problems) 2) Current primary and secondary prevention programs; national health program, health policy of the Czech Republic; health and its determinants - living and working environment, lifestyle, socio-economic factors - risk and protective factors) 3) Intervention programs (planning, strategy, goal formulation and target group selection, tools, interdepartmental cooperation and project evaluation, examples of good practice) 4) Effective educational and intervention strategies of health literacy in prevention of the most common diseases 1 (type II diabetes mellitus, CHD, hypertension) 5) Effective educational and intervention strategies of health literacy in prevention of the most common diseases 2 (tumors, osteoporosis, injuries, mental health, oral health) Exercises: 1) Health literacy in the 21st century 2) Creating an effective educational and intervention strategy of health literacy for selected diseases 1 3) Creating an effective educational and intervention strategy of health literacy for selected diseases 2 4) Specifics of patient education in different age groups and social groups 5) Aggression, abuse, care for people with special needs and balneology

Learning outcomes
|
The course is conceived as a theoretical-practical unit with an emphasis on the latest scientifically proven knowledge concerning health literacy in relation to health promotion. It provides students with a comprehensive overview of the standard range of health literacy for patients. It focuses on gaining knowledge about effective educational and intervention strategies of health literacy. It enables them to acquire competences for education of patients of all ages and social groups in the field of lifestyle, reduction of inappropriate habits, care of (home) environment, disease prevention, nursing care and safe behavior. It introduces problems of aggression, abuse, care for people with specific needs, balneology.
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Test
Classified credit: - 80% participation in exercises, - development of educational and intervention strategy and its defense, - written test.
