Course content
Lectures: 1. Introduction to the subject of psychology: definition of clinical psychology, meaning of clinical psychology, its position within psychological sciences, content of clinical psychology and its cooperation with medical disciplines. 2. Personality: the formation of personality of an individual, the structure of personality, personality traits, issues of normality and pathology of personality, personality changes caused by disease. 3. Illness as a challenging life situation: definition of health and illness, image of illness, reflection of illness in the psyche of the individual, individuality of individual reactions in illness. 4. Autoplastic image of illness and its modifications: psychosomatic medicine (psychosomatic and somatopsychic difficulties), the most common images of psychosomatic diseases. 5. The sick person in the health care environment: the importance of the personality of the sick person - its manifestations and reactions, adaptation and maladaptation of the individual in illness. Placebo effect. Social support and its forms in the life of the sick client/patient. 6. Damage to the client/patient by health care workers (iatropathogenesis, sorrorigenie). Exercises: 1. Definition of psychology and specifics related to clinical psychology. 2. Personality and its changes due to illness. 3. Illness as a challenging life situation, autoplastic picture of illness, psychosomatic and somatopsychic difficulties. 4. The sick person - the picture of reactions and behaviour, depth of experience, approaches to and interactions with him/her.

Learning outcomes
The course Medical Psychology 1-2 is designed as a theoretical-practical unit and builds on the knowledge of general and developmental psychology. It focuses in detail on knowledge related to health psychology, clinical psychology, application of psychological knowledge in health care and psychological care of the patient. Stress management affects the management of psychological stress and stress in helping professions, psychosocial assistance, post-traumatic stress reaction and psychological first aid in disasters and disasters.
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme.
Prerequisites
Preconditions are frased in the annotation of the course and in the curriculum of the studying programme.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam

Credit: - 80% participation in exercises, - reading recommended literature, - written test.
