Course content
Introduction to Medical English, tutorial content, study materials including e-learning environment; study requirements The Hospital Team The Biomedical Technician In and Around the Hospital Biomedical Equipment in the Hospital Hospital Admissions, the Human Body Communication in Healthcare Accidents and Emergencies, CPR X-ray, US, MRI and other imaging techniques (intro) Pain & Symptoms Writing a Report The Elderly and the Brain Gerontology

Learning outcomes
Students will acquire knowledge and skills of English specific terminology. The aim of the course is to acquire the ability to read and understand English texts, to classify information and work with it, to acquire learning strategies for self-study and further use of language in everyday situations and in professional practice. The course is aimed at balancing students´ heterogeneous entry skills of and creating prerequisites for further development of general and professional communication. It focuses on training and development of all language skills (with an emphasis on grammar, specific vocabulary, reading comprehension and speaking/communication in professional context). The consolidation and deepening of grammar and lexical resources will be carried out in the form of substitution, transformation and translation exercises from a selected English textbook, with the support of the e-learning environment. Working with specialized texts and authentic audio-visual activities will serve for the development of general professional communication. Students will acquire knowledge of fundamental English medical terminology in given topics. Students will acquire skills in reading professional English medical or non-medical texts. The aim of the course is to equip students with competence in the field of professional language at the level of B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).
Students will acquire the threshold level of B1 as defined in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Prerequisites
Students entry level is such as to enable them to acquire the CEFR level required at the end of the semester.
