Course content

1. LaTeX today, choice of working environment and first compilation. 2. Anatomy of a LaTeX project, document structure and compilation passes. 3. Typesetting ordinary text. 4. Czech typography and fonts. 5. Document structure and cross-references. 6. Document classes, styles and publication layout. 7. Typesetting mathematical text. 8. Tables. 9. Figures and graphics. 10. Floats, captions and references. 11. Citations, bibliography, biblatex and Biber. 12. Larger documents, project organization and custom commands. 13. The TUL thesis template. 14. Debugging, final checks and project submission.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the seminar is to learn students to work with LaTeX.
Upon completion of the course, the student can independently create and compile a structured multi-file LaTeX project; use structural commands, automatic numbering and cross-references; correctly typeset Czech prose, mathematical expressions, tables and figures; create citations and a bibliography from a .bib file; work with document classes and the TUL template; diagnose and fix common compilation errors; and prepare a complete source archive that can be compiled after extraction.

Prerequisites
|
Basic ability to use a computer, work with files and folders, and use a web browser. No previous knowledge of LaTeX is required.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Practical exam
To obtain course credit, a student must complete all 14 continuous quizzes with a score of 100%, submit the mandatory interim version of the semester project by the deadline, and receive a pass for the final version of the same project.
