Lectures: 1. Basic terms 2. Network architecture, ISO OSI reference model 3. Physical layer, media, data transmission over phone line, ADSL 4. Ethernet 5. Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, Ten-Gigabit Ethernet 6. IEEE 802.11 (Wi-Fi) 7. Ethernet alternatives, virtual local networks 8. Internet Protocol 9. Routing algorithms, principles, RIP, OSPF 10. Transport layer - UDP, TCP 11. Domain Name System 12. Application protocols - E-mail, WWW 13. Application protocols - IP telephony and other applications 14. Internet Protocol version 6 Practices: 1. Etics, etiquette and anonymity in Internet 2. LIANE, computer network of TU in Liberec 3. Elektronic mail 4. File transfers, FTP 5. World-Wide Web 6. Remote access and services 7. Security, viruses and antiviruses 8. Security, known problems and attacks 9. Networking hardware 10. Network configuration in MS Windows 11. Network tools in MS Windows 12. Learning outcomes
The subject is focused on basic principles of the computer networks. Basic terminology of computer networks, topology, architecture. ISO OSI reference model. The common networking technologies - Ethenret and its variants, Token Ring, FDDI, ATM. Routing and routing protocols. Internet and function of its core protocols and services - IP, TCP, Domain name System, E-mail, WWW.
Students learn the principles of computer network operation and the most common networking technologies and applications.
