Course content
|
Lectures: 1) Introduction, ethics and medical ethics; historical roots of medical ethics, current most important sources, on which medical ethics is based 2) Relationship between law and medical ethics; Charter of Human Rights, Medical Codes, Ethics Committees, Informed Consent, Patient's Instruction, Patient Rights, Society and Medical Ethics; ethical problems of the beginning of life; end of life ethical problems, definition of death, euthanasia, palliative care; hospice 3) Research ethics; communication with the patient, professional communication, ethical communication in non-medical health fields, problems of communicating the truth to the patient; ethical problems in individual fields of medicine 4) Discussion of basic ethical problems Exercises: 1) Ethics characteristics, historical roots of medical ethics, practical application of ethics 2) Ethical issues of beginning and end of life, palliative care and hospice; ethical issues of research 3) Communication in non-medical medical fields; ethical problems in health care 4) Discussion of ethical problems

Learning outcomes
|
Learning outcomes of the course unit The aim of the course is to understand the value system forming the basis of the professional behavior of non-medical healthcare workers, to understand the issue of medical ethics, to know terminology in a broader context and in relation to historical roots in receiving new knowledge in medicine and non-medical healthcare.
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme.

Credit: - self-study, - student activity in lectures and seminars, - 80% attendance at exercises.
