Course content
Lectures: 1) Introduction to the subject. 2) Concept of ethics and medical ethics, historical roots, philosophical ethics. 3) Ethical codes and conventions, man as soul and body, psychosomatics, man as a person, human dignity. 4) The principle of autonomy and paternalism, informed consent, patients' rights, telling the truth. 5) The role of the health professional, the power and powerlessness of the patient. 6) Crisis intervention, communication with the patient. 7) Ethical problems at the end of life, issues of pain, suffering and guilt, search for meaning, definition of death. 8) Euthanasia, assisted suicide, palliative care, hospice. 9) Ethical problems in individual fields of medicine. 10) Recapitulation.

Learning outcomes
Learning outcomes of the course unit The aim of the course is to understand the value system forming the basis of the professional behavior of non-medical healthcare workers, to understand the issue of medical ethics, to know terminology in a broader context and in relation to historical roots in receiving new knowledge in medicine and non-medical healthcare.
The student will gain information about the value system as a basis for the professional behavior of non-medical health workers and about medical ethics.
