Course content
|
Lectures: 1) Characteristics of geriatric nursing; theory of aging; aging physiology, functional changes in older age; psychosocial changes in old age; healthy lifestyle in old age; preparation for old age 2) Characteristics of elderly diseases, polymorbidity, geriatric pharmacotherapy; rehabilitation care in geriatrics 3) Dementia, mental, neurological disorders in seniors; chapters with geriatric cardiology and pneumology, chapters with geriatric gastroenterology and urology, incontinence 4) Haematological and oncological diseases in seniors, locomotor system and stability disorders in seniors; endocrine and metabolic disorders in seniors 5) Terminal stage; working with the geriatric patient's family; the planned release of geriatric patients; model situations Exercises: 1) Nursing process in geriatric patient 2) Nursing process in a patient with dementia, mental and neurological disorders; nursing process in a geriatric patient with heart and lung disease 3) Nursing process in geriatric patients with hematological and oncological diseases 4) Nursing process in geriatric patient with musculoskeletal disorders 5) Nursing process in geriatric patient with endocrine and metabolic disease; nursing process in a patient at the terminal stage

Learning outcomes
|
The course is designed as theoretical-practical. It is a part of a complex of subjects from clinical nursing. It acquaints students with involutionary changes, health status and diseases in older age in terms of nursing care and the needs of the elderly changed in connection with the disease. Emphasis is placed on the differences in the individual needs of older people and the way they are satisfied, including the diversity of multidisciplinary care for the elderly.
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme.

|
Oral exam
Classified credit: - 80% participation in exercises, - self-study, - oral exam.
