Course content
Lectures: 1) Introduction: field definition, work methods, legislation, assessment of health risks and health impact. 2) Environmental hygiene and its influence on human health: Undesirable health effects of physical, chemical, biological factors in the communal environment, their assessment, management and prevention of health risks. 3) Occupational hygiene and the influence of the working environment on human health: Undesirable health effects of physical, chemical, biological and physiological factors in the working environment, their assessment, risk management and prevention, health risks of selected professions and occupational diseases. 4) Nutritional hygiene and the influence of nutrition on human health: Importance and need of individual nutrients, nutritional recommendations, health risks from diet and food-borne diseases, disease prevention. 5) General epidemiology: basic epidemiological concepts, the process of spreading the disease, measures before and during the outbreak of the disease. 6) General epidemiology: principles of immunization and vaccination calendar. 7) Special epidemiology: respiratory and intestinal infections. 8) Special epidemiology: blood-borne infections, skin infections, sexually transmitted infections, morning infections, anthropozoonoses. 9) Principles of infection control and prevention in healthcare facilities: standard measures, isolation measures for pathogens transmitted by contact, pathogens transmitted by droplets, transmitted by air. 10) Healthcare-associated infections: surgical site infections, catheter infections, pneumonia, urinary tract infections.

Learning outcomes
The course focuses on health protection and promotion. The aim of the course is to introduce students to environmental and occupational risk assessment, the importance of nutrition for individual and community health, epidemiological methods, and the importance of anti-epidemic measures for the most important infections in the community and in health care settings.
The student will become familiar with the assessment of the risks of the living and working environment, the importance of nutrition for the health of the individual and the community, with epidemiological methods, the importance of anti-epidemic measures for the most important infections in the community and in healthcare facilities.
