Course content

Lectures: 1) Introduction to the subject of psychology: the definition of clinical psychology, the meaning of clinical psychology, its position within the psychological sciences, the content of clinical psychology and its cooperation with medical disciplines. 2) Personality: formation of an individual's personality, personality structure, personality characteristics, issues of personality normality and pathology, personality changes caused by illness. 3) Illness as a challenging life situation: definition of health and illness, image of the illness, reflection of the illness in the individual's psyche, individuality of the individual's reactions in illness. 4) Autoplastic image of the disease and its modification: psychosomatic medicine (psychosomatic and somatopsychic problems), the most common images of psychosomatic diseases. 5) A sick person in general, a sick person in reactions, a sick person in a medical environment: the meaning of the sick person's personality - premorbid personality of a sick individual, manifestations and reactions of a sick individual, adaptation and maladaptation of an individual in illness. Placebo effect. Social support and its forms in the life of a sick client/patient. 6) Damage to the client/patient by healthcare workers (iatropathogenesis, sorrorigenesis). Exercises: 1) Definition of psychology and specifics regarding clinical psychology. 2) Personality and its changes due to illness. 3) Illness as a demanding life situation, autoplastic image of illness, psychosomatic and somatopsychic difficulties. 4) Sick person - picture of reactions and behavior, depth of experience, approaches to him and interaction with him.

The aim of the course is to familiarize with the issues of clinical psychology, both at the theoretical and practical level. The course will introduce the origins of clinical psychology, the basic definition of clinical psychology and its integration into the healthcare environment, as well as the use of clinical psychology. Furthermore, the personality of clients/patients, their relatives and all individuals involved in the treatment and care of patients. The issue of illness as a challenging life situation is also discussed. And their impact on the psyche of the individual. The course also addresses the issue of risk sites and the potential for harm to clients/patients as a result of access, communication and interaction with them.
Students will become familiar with the issues of clinical psychology on a theoretical and practical level, with the emergence of clinical psychology, the basic definition of clinical psychology and its integration into the healthcare environment, and with the use of clinical psychology.
