Lectures: 1) Palliative care ? introduction, communication in palliative care. 2) Selected symptoms in oncology with an overlap into palliative care. 3) Acute conditions in oncology. 4) Treatment of pain and pulmonary symptoms. 5) Palliative care in intensive medicine. 6) Palliative care and euthanasia. 7) Patient in terminal condition. Exercises: 1) Palliative and hospice care, the role of the nurse, development in the Czech Republic, legislation. 2) Nursing care focused on the most common symptoms in palliative care. 3) Nursing process for a patient with cancer pain. 4) Nursing process for patients with the most common oncological diseases

Learning outcomes
|
The subject introduces the issues of oncology, palliative and hospice care in its entirety. They are in the introductory lectures defined basic oncological diseases, principles of their treatment, various forms of care with an overlap into nursing. In other parts of the block, the main and typical acute conditions of patients in curative and palliative oncological care are dealt with. Their therapy and management with regard to the type of tumor and the prognosis of the patients. The contents of the lectures and exercises are designed to overlap with non-oncological palliative care, due to the identical approach to their solution. In the last part, the emphasis is placed on the care of patients at the end of life
The student will become familiar with the issues of oncology, palliative and hospice care, basic oncological diseases, typical acute conditions in patients in curative and palliative oncological care and care for patients at the end of life.
