Course content

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquire the skills of reading and understanding written English text, sorting information and working with it, acquiring learning strategies for self-study and further use of the language in everyday situations and in professional practice. The course is focused on leveling the heterogeneous entry skills of students and creating additional prerequisites for the further development of general and professional communication. It focuses primarily on the practice and development of language resources (with an emphasis on grammar and vocabulary) and speech skills (with an emphasis on oral expression and reading comprehension). Consolidation and deepening of grammatical and lexical resources will take place, among other things, in the form of supplementary, transformation or translation exercises from a selected English language textbook, with the support of an e-learning environment. Work with professional texts and authentic audio-visual activities will serve to develop general professional communication. The aim of the course is to equip students with competences in the field of professional language at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Students will acquire basic knowledge and skills in English professional terminology, knowledge in basic English medical terminology in given topics, and skills in reading professional English medical or non-medical texts.
Prerequisites
Preconditions are frased in the annotation of the course and in the curriculum of the studying programme.

Assessment methods and criteria
Presentation of acquired knowledge via paper, Test

Credit: - 80% participation in exercises, - presentations on a selected topic, - individual work and homework in an e-learning course environment, - written credit test (min. 60% correct answers).
