Learning outcomes
The course provides basic knowledge of English professional terminology. The aim is to acquire knowledge and skills in reading and understanding English written text, sorting information and working with it, acquiring learning strategies for self-study and further use of the language in everyday situations and in professional practice. The course is focused on balancing students' heterogeneous entry skills and creating additional prerequisites for the further development of general and professional communication. It focuses primarily on training and developing language skills (with an emphasis on grammar and vocabulary) and speech skills (with an emphasis on oral expression and reading comprehension). Consolidation and deepening of grammatical and lexical skills will take place, among other things, in the form of supplementary, transformational or translation exercises from a selected English language textbook, with the support of an e-learning environment. Work with professional texts and authentic audio-visual activities will serve to develop general professional communication. The aim of the course is to acquire students' competences in the field of professional language at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ??(CEFR).
Students will master basic English medical terminology in given topics and will understand professional English medical or non-medical texts.
Prerequisites
Preconditions are frased in the annotation of the course and in the curriculum of the studying programme.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral presentation of self-study, Written assignment, Test

Graded credit: - 80% participation in seminars, - presentation on a selected topic, - seminar paper, - independent work and homework in the e-learning course environment, - written graded credit test (min. 60% correct answers).
