Course content
Lectures: 1) Standard nursing unit and specifics of intensive care unit - admission, translation and discharge of the patient, visitation; characteristics of work in basic departments, medical documentation; antisepsis, asepsis, barrier system of care, care of aids, decontamination, disinfection, sterilization 2) Nursing process in patient hygiene, patient handling, patient positioning; nursing evaluation of the patient - medical history, physical examination in the competence of non-medical healthcare workers 3) Nursing process to ensure hydration and nutrition of the patient - general overview; nursing process in emptying urine and stool 4) Nursing process in administration and administration of drugs, oxygen therapy; professional introduction to infusion therapy 5) Nursing process in ensuring the collection of biological material Exercises: 1) Nursing unit, bed and its equipment, visitation, specifics of intensive care unit equipment; nursing process in the reception, translation and release of the patient with an emphasis on the specifics of patient transfer, medical documentation 2) Antisepsis, asepsis, barrier system of care, care of aids, decontamination, disinfection, sterilization; nursing process in securing the patient's position, medical rehabilitation 3) Nursing process to ensure patient hygiene; the nursing process of a patient in the care of pressure ulcers; nursing evaluation of the patient - medical history, physical examination - monitoring and pathophysiological deviations of body temperature, breath, body blood pressure and pulse, monitoring of consciousness 4) Nursing care to ensure nutrition and hydration of the patient, principles of diet and fluid administration, sipping; nasogastric tube insertion, nasojejunal tube insertion assistance, nursing care for patients with enteral nutrition 5) Nursing care to ensure emptying of urine, catheterization, urine collection 6) Nursing care in ensuring stool emptying; faecal sampling, enema 7) Nursing process in the application of drugs orally, nose, ear, eye, per rectum, per vaginam 8) Nursing process when administering drugs to the airways; oxygen therapy, inhalation techniques; nursing process for drug administration intradermally, subcutaneously and intramuscularly 9) Nursing process when administering drugs intravenously; nursing process in securing peripheral venous catheter, care of central venous catheter; infusion therapy 10) Nursing process in ensuring the collection of biological material (blood collection, swabs, swabs, sputum, vomit)

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Observation, Demonstration, Motoric and practical working skills training
Learning outcomes
The course is included as a compulsory subject of the program and forms the basis of professional skills. Teaching is both theoretical and practical. Learning outcomes of the course unit The aim of the course is to help students acquire basic knowledge, but also manual dexterity, assurance of safe and quality performance of professional interventions in patients.
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme.

Preconditions are frased in the annotation of the course and in the curriculum of the studying programme.

Combined examination, Student's performance analysis, Didactic test

Classified credit: - self-study, - 80% attendance in exercises, - continuous written tests on Moodle, - oral and practical examination.
