Course content
Lectures: 1) Introduction to the subject, holism, the essence of a holistic view of man. 2) Holistic theory of disease origin, stress theory, foundations of psychosomatic medicine. 3) Human needs; Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. 4) Algorithm of satisfying human needs. 5) Physiological needs - need for breathing, nutrition, defecation. 6) Physiological needs - need for hydration, sexual needs. 7) Psychological needs. 8) The need for safety and security; the need for love, acceptance, belonging. 9) Need for recognition, respect; the need for self-actualization; the needs of the dying. 10) Human needs in the nursing process. Exercises: 1) Holism, illness as a demanding life situation. 2) Perception of health and illness by different groups of people. 3) Human needs, the dynamics of satisfying human needs. 4) Gordon's model in a healthy and a sick individual. 5) Practical assessment of physiological needs. 6) Immobilization syndrome - prevention. 7) Practical assessment of safety and security needs. 8) Practical evaluation of needs for recognition and respect, needs for self-realization.

Learning outcomes
The subject is designed as a theoretical-practical unit. It allows students to understand the main task of a professional nursing practice. It introduces the classifications of human needs according to various fields and focuses on the reactions and manifestations of unsatisfied needs in healthy, sick, disabled and dying people. It focuses on practicing the individual phases of the nursing process. It allows students to acquire systematic knowledge and skills in the nursing process.
The student will get to know the classifications of human needs according to different fields, practice the individual phases of the nursing process and acquire systematic knowledge and skills in the nursing process.
