Course content
Lectures: 1) General procedure and principles in providing first aid, safety principles, examination and procedure, prioritization, limits, rescue chain. 2) Unconsciousness, sudden circulatory arrest, cardiopulmonary resuscitation of adults, quality indirect cardiac massage and safe defibrillation with the use of AED, airway management and artificial respiration, aspiration, CPR in specific situations. 3) Serious injury: life-threatening (massive) bleeding, shock, injuries to the head, spine and spinal cord, trunk (chest, abdomen, pelvis). 4) Traumatic conditions 1 - open wounds, wounds, amputations, limb injuries, burns and frostbite, burns. 5) Trauma states 2 - drowning, hanging and strangulation, hypothermia, overheating and dehydration, electrical injuries. by current. 6) Non-traumatic conditions 1 - fainting, syncope, whole-body convulsions, strokes, shortness of breath and chest pain (acute coronary syndrome, bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). 7) Non-traumatic conditions 2 - allergies incl. anaphylaxis, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhoea, diabetes, behavioral disorders. 8) Acute conditions in children - NZO and CPR in children, fever and convulsions, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhoea, shortness of breath (laryngitis epiglottitis), meningitis, birth outside a medical facility. 9) Poisoning (inhalation, alcohol, drugs, methanol, ethylene glycol, plants and mushrooms), snake bites, insect bites, ticks. 10) Principles of positioning, transport, mass disability, ethical issues. Exercises: 1) First aid procedure, patient examination, unconscious procedure. 2) Basic and advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation in adults. 3) First aid for external and internal bleeding, anti-shock measures. 4) First aid for open wounds, amputations, treatment of acute wounds. 5) First aid in the treatment of burns and cold damage, electric shocks. 6) First aid for injuries to the brain and skull, spinal cord and spine, disorders of consciousness and convulsions. 7) First aid for respiratory failure and anaphylaxis. 8) First aid for other urgent situations in internal fields. 9) Basic and advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation in children. 10) First aid for an intoxicated patient.

Learning outcomes
The subject is designed as theoretical and practical. It provides knowledge and skills for providing pre-medical first aid in the event of suddenly occurring conditions threatening the health or life of the affected person. The subject is the basis for acquiring the professional knowledge of a paramedic for the provision of emergency care and is a prerequisite for studying the subject of emergency medicine.
Students acquire knowledge of procedures and principles in various health-damaging conditions and skills in practical exercises of emergency resuscitation of adults and children within the framework of valid recommended procedures (ERC Guidelines).
