Course content
Lectures: 1) Basic definition of emergency medicine (basic terms, legislation, ethical aspects of work) in emergency care); monitoring in emergency medicine 2) Cardiopulmonary resuscitation of adults and children (causes, diagnostics, urgent resuscitation procedure, monitoring, subsequent hospital care) 3) Pre-hospital and follow-up hospital care for consciousness disorders 4) Fundamentals of war medicine, triage, asphyxia, wound treatment with massive vascular system injury 5) Basic first aid for chest and abdominal injuries 6) Basic terminology of an emergency, legislative definition of duties of a paramedic in an emergency, documentation 7) Extraordinary event and cooperation of activities of IRS units during extraordinary event; communication with the operations center and managing the removal of patients Exercises: 1) Training of cardiopulmonary resuscitation of adults and children, including monitoring techniques in emergency medicine 2) Provision of the patient in emergency medicine (provision of peripheral or central venous system, intraosseous) input, intubation, basic drugs applied within urgent and widespread cardiopulmocerebral resuscitation) 3) BALTS / BARTS (Battelfield Advanced Trauma Life Support / Battelfield Advanced Resuscitations and Skills) with regard to war injuries 4) Training of individual activities in case of mass health disability: sorting, dressing, removal; documentation in case of mass disasters

Learning outcomes
The course is conceived as a theoretical-practical unit. The course deals with multidisciplinary problems of diagnosis and therapy of acute conditions in both pre-hospital care and intensive care units. It includes the issue of both securing the patient in pre-hospital care and its transport and subsequent emergency care within the medical facility. The course contains the basics of disaster medicine and war medicine in mass disasters with an emphasis on triage and subsequent transport of the affected.
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme.

Preconditions are frased in the annotation of the course and in the curriculum of the studying programme.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

Credit: - 80% participation in exercises, - a written test, - practical verification of skills.
