Course content
Lectures: 1) Introduction to the field of public health. 2) Historical notes on the development of medicine and public health; definition and interpretation of the concepts of health, disease 3) Ethical aspects of health; definition of primary, secondary, tertiary health care; historical and current role of prevention and primary care in the care of the health of the population 4) Determinants of health, their nature, dynamics and validity; methods of evaluating the health status of the population; indicators of the health status of the population in the Czech Republic, dynamics of development and comparison of these parameters on a European and global scale; health statistics and informatics, application in public health, basic statistical methods and their use; National Health Information System 5) Health legislation of the Czech Republic in the context of the constitutional and legal system of the Czech Republic and the EU legal system; legal status of health institutions (MO), insurance companies, professional organizations under the law (chambers), professional societies, providers and health professionals as natural persons in the health care system in the Czech Republic; currently valid and prepared main legal standards in healthcare; selected problems of health insurance and special sections of healthcare law, data protection in healthcare 6) Healthcare policy, definition of healthcare systems, interpretation of concepts, objectives and strategies and instruments of healthcare policy, development of European and global healthcare policy; World Health Organization (WHO), WHO programs 7) WHO European strategies for the 21st century; healthcare policy in the Czech Republic, development, current situation and perspectives, comparison in the context of the EU 8) Healthcare economics and healthcare financing, general principles of healthcare economics, description of basic healthcare systems from the perspective of financing; description of healthcare financing in the Czech Republic; drug policy and its application 9) Healthcare facility management; characteristics of basic types of healthcare facilities providing healthcare; primary care facilities as a fundamental tool for influencing the health status of the population; basic links between healthcare and social care 10) Regional healthcare policy; overview of the regional healthcare system; basic importance, role and basic organizational chart of a regional hospital; emergency medical services (RZP, LZS), pre-hospital medical care 11) Management of medical facilities; professional and hospital care facilities; information technologies, information systems as tools for managing medical facilities, expert information systems and support of clinical activities 12) Education in healthcare, specific aspects of postgraduate education and training, system of medical education and training in the Czech Republic; education (training), science and research in healthcare in the Czech Republic in the context of the EU and international programs 13) Hygiene and epidemiology, explanation of basic concepts, description of basic factors of the external environment affecting health, risk assessment in the living (working) environment, organization and tasks of the hygiene service in the health care system, occupational diseases 14) Monitoring the quality and safety of provided healthcare; accreditation, certification of healthcare facilities

Learning outcomes
The course introduces students to the health insurance system, the current legislation and the list of services for reimbursement of provided care, the management of economic documentation in the healthcare sector, and the processing of documentation for a health insurance company. It provides information about business activities in the healthcare sector.
Students will become familiar with the health insurance system, applicable legislation, the list of services for reimbursement, maintaining documentation in the healthcare sector, processing documentation for health insurance companies, and will obtain information about business activities in the healthcare sector.
Prerequisites
Preconditions are frased in the annotation of the course and in the curriculum of the studying programme.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Test

Classified credit: - self-study, - 80% participation in classes, - written test and oral examination.
