Course content
Lectures: 1) Introduction to the field of public health; historical notes on the development of medicine and public health; definition and interpretation of the terms health, disease. Ethical aspects of health; definition of primary, secondary, tertiary health care; historical and current role of prevention and primary care in population health care. 2) Determinants of health, their nature, dynamics and validity; methods of evaluating the health status of the population; indicators of the health status of the population in the Czech Republic, dynamics of development and comparison of these parameters on a European and global scale; health statistics and informatics, application in public health, basic statistical methods and their use; National Health Information System. 3) Health legislation of the Czech Republic in the context of the constitutional and legal system of the Czech Republic and the legal system of the EU; the legal status of healthcare institutions (MO), insurance companies, statutory organizations (chambers), professional societies, providers and healthcare professionals as natural persons in the healthcare system in the Czech Republic; currently valid and upcoming main legal standards in the healthcare sector; selected problems of health insurance and special sections of health law, data protection in the health sector. 4) Health policy, definition of health systems, interpretation of concepts, goals and strategies and tools of health policy, development of European and world health policy; World Health Organization (WHO), WHO programmes; WHO's European strategy for the 21st century; health policy in the Czech Republic, development, current situation and perspectives, comparison in the context of the EU. 5) Healthcare economics and financing of healthcare, general principles of economics in healthcare, description of basic healthcare systems from the point of view of financing; description of health care financing in the Czech Republic; drug policy and its application. Medical facility management; characteristics of the basic types of medical facilities providing health care; primary care facilities as an essential tool for influencing the health status of the population; basic ties of health and social care. 6) Regional health policy; an overview of the region's healthcare system; basic meaning, role and basic organizational chart of the regional hospital; emergency medical services (RZP, LZS), pre-hospital medical care; medical facility management; professional and hospital care facilities; information technology, information systems as tools for managing healthcare facilities, expert information systems and support for clinical activities. Education in healthcare, specific aspects of postgraduate education and training, system of healthcare education and training in the Czech Republic; education (training), science and research in healthcare in the Czech Republic in the context of the EU and international programs. 7) Hygiene and epidemiology, interpretation of basic terms, description of basic factors of the external environment affecting health, assessment of risks in the living (working) environment, organization and tasks of hygiene services in the health care system, occupational diseases; monitoring the quality and safety of the health care provided; accreditation, certification of medical facilities.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to explain and present the area of public health issues and its importance in influencing the health status of the population, in influencing individual health and their interdependence. At the same time, the goal is to explain the role of healthcare and healthcare professionals in this area and the necessity of intersectoral cooperation.
The student will become familiar with the role of health professionals and the health sector and with the issue of public health and its importance in influencing the health status of the population
