Course content
This foundational module targets general communicative competencies (CEFR Level B1/B2) for non-specialist students across diverse faculties. The course focuses entirely on everyday conversational fluency, general reading comprehension, practical grammar review, and basic vocabulary expansion for standard daily interactions. Compressed 2-Meeting Timetable Structure: ? Meeting 1 (4 Hours): Intro to communicative modules, baseline fluency checks, and vocabulary expansion. Review of core primary textbook modules tracking English File Intermediate (Units 1?2: Food, restaurants, family, money; present/past tenses review) OR Navigate B1+ (Units 1?2: State/action verbs, travel, transport; present continuous/perfect frameworks). ? Meeting 2 (4 Hours): General active speaking modules, functional dialogue practice, and basic grammar refinement. Review of core secondary textbook modules tracking English File Intermediate (Units 3?4: Transport, travel, clothes, fashion, education; comparatives, future forms, modals) OR Navigate B1+ (Units 3?4: Work, education, employment, learning; narrative tenses, future forms, modals), concluding with the standard course review and final evaluation routing. ? Independent Self-Study: Standard independent preparation tracking core intermediate textbook units (Units 1?4 of English File Intermediate OR Units 1?4 of Navigate B1+) to reinforce vocabulary and structural comprehension, managed flexibly via guidance from the instructor without mandatory portfolios or reading journals.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to develop language competences by studying a balanced mix of the four language skills (Speaking, Listening, Reading & Writing) and the four language systems (Grammar, Vocabulary, Functions & Pronunciation) with a strong emphasis on practical, every day communication.
Graduates will transition from an initial A2/B1 baseline to a solid B1/B2 communicative competence by the conclusion of the module [civics]. Students acquire advanced conversational fluency, multi-disciplinary presentation skills, spontaneous vocabulary retrieval agility, and the structural capability to participate actively in academic disagreements and classroom panel debates.
Prerequisites
Initial language proficiency spanning the A2/B1 spectrum, accommodating a wide variance of cross-faculty distance-learning student backgrounds (Geography, History, Czech Language, and Physical Education)

Assessment methods and criteria
Systematické pozorování studenta, Test

? Assessment Metrics (Zápočet): Credits are allocated based on standard active engagement during the scheduled weekend blocks and the successful completion of the standard final written achievement test. In strict alignment with traditional department delivery and previous academic years, there are no mandatory seminar papers, research presentations, or continuous portfolio tasks required for credit completion. ? Attendance Policy: In strict compliance with the established institutional guidelines for Kombinované (combined/part-time weekend) study programs, attendance requirements remain flexible to accommodate the schedule constraints of working adult students. Absences are managed dynamically through direct communication with the instructor, and mandatory external medical certification is not required for standard scheduling adjustments.
