This subject is the first of a three-semester practical English Language Course. Its objective is to improve the linguistic competence of students from level C1- to level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference. Included activities and materials contribute to the development of language production to achieve proficiency in both fluency and accuracy. Attention is also paid to extending both active and passive vocabulary inventory and practice in selecting appropriate collocations and grammatical structures. The goal of activities aimed at improving listening skills is to help students to understand the spoken word delivered at normal speed and in various varieties of English.
Students should be able to understand standard spoken and written language on both familiar and unfamiliar topics normally encountered in personal, social, academic or vocational life. They will be developing a broad vocabulary and fluency on more complex abstract topics. The aim is to continue in a systemic development of language skills, maximum extension of active and passive vocabulary, intensive improvement in the field of highly advanced listening and reading capabilities with understanding and detailed knowledge of the English grammatical system in the range C1- to C1. Students are led to analytical, synthetic and critical thinking, the ability to combine, logical argumentation and exact expression. Active participation in exercises and the use of a foreign language in the professional and general context of a comprehensive nature is crucial. Students are able to understand a wide range of demanding academic texts that effectively analyze and interpret. They can express themselves smoothly in precise standardized and formal, etc., whether British or American (RP/GA). They can use the language flexibly, spontaneously and effectively for not only social, but above all, academic and professional purposes. Students are ready for the successful composition of the semestral credit at a fully managed level C1 according to the common European reference framework.
