Course content
Contents: Session 1: Introduction to the process of writing. The paragraph and its structure: topic sentence and supporting sentences. Session 2: The paragraph and its different types: narrative, descriptive and expository. Revising and proofreading. Session 3: The five-paragraph essay.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce and develop writing as a process with an emphasis on building selected types of coherent texts from paragraphs to short essays. Students read and analyse authentic texts that function as rhetorical illustrations of well-structured and sufficiently supported compositions and thus learn to fully understand the purpose and form of different types of essays.
Students improve their ability to read critically and to develop a logical and properly structured simple essay in English.
Prerequisites
B1 level of English.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written assignment, Test

Requirements: - registration for the PP1 course in e-learning - attendance and active participation in classes (one absence is allowed) - regular checking of university mail - timely submission of assignments - a test written at the university at the beginning of the third meeting - a final essay written at the university during the examination period To obtain credit, the student must obtain at least 70% in each assignment and test. Each assignment or test can be repeated only once.
