Course content
Topics covered in seminars: Presentation phases and related communication and language skills. Language of presentations: levels of formality/informality, useful expressions. Rhetorical questions, contrasts, tripling, simplification. Successful presentations: effective openings and means of organising the information (cause, effect, purpose) Visual aids Using one's voice: articulation, chunking, stress, intonation. Basic voice techniques: emphasis, focusing, softening, repetition. Body language. Handling questions: clarification, dealing with questions. The extent of the face-to-face instruction: 14 seminars per semester/combined study: 9 lessons

Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to provide students with the necessary skills, techniques and methods to be effective at presenting in front of an audience and have a discussion and debate with them. Careful consideration is given to developing students' practical capability to prepare a meaningful presentation as well as enhancing the range of their speaking skills that will make their talks successful and effective.
Students will be able to prepare and use a variety of ways of presentations on a variety of topics.
Prerequisites
B1 level of English.

Enrolment to the course on elearning.tul.cz (https://elearning.tul.cz/course/view.php?id=148944). Active in-class participation. Full-time studies: two absences are allowed, combined studies: one absence is allowed (pending the reason for them). If possible, students should let the teacher know they are going to miss a class in advance. Preparation and delivery of an oral presentation (its reflection and reworking), peer assessment of the delivered presentations. Students should be made aware that the delivery of their presentations will be recorded for the purposes of the subject (detailed feedback). However, it will be possible to arrange that the feedback concerning the recorded presentations will not be done in front of the whole class - should the student(s) wish so. Additional assignments/activities on Moodle should be submitted or carried out according to the instructions and within the given time period. Final assessment will be based on complete, successful and timely fulfilment of the core assignments and additional tasks. The same is required from and to be expected by the combined study students.
