The course offers a brief overview of the history of filmmaking and the film industry in a globalized context, with the aim of introducing students to the cultural, political and socio-economic aspects of cinema in English. In other words, rather than simply providing a chronology of significant works of American and British film production, the course aims to introduce students to the historical development of basic concepts of film theory and approaches to the interpretation and critical evaluation of cinema in the Anglophone context, using examples of particular films.
