Revising and proofreading: unity, coherence, sentence skills 5. The narrative paragraph 6. The descriptive paragraph 7. The expository paragraph 8. Mid-term examination 9. Thesis statement and blueprint 10. Central paragraphs 11. Introductory paragraph. 12. Conclusion 13. Writing a five-paragraph essay (Introduction + the essay layout) 14. Writing a five-paragraph essay. Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to introduce and develop writing as a process with an emphasis on building selected types of coherent texts from paragraphs to short essays. Students read and analyse authentic texts that function as rhetorical illustrations of well-structured and sufficiently supported compositions and thus learn to fully understand the purpose and form of different types of essays.
Students improve their ability to read critically and to develop a logical and properly structured simple essay in English.

Assessment methods and criteria

Written assignment
General Requirements: - Moodle enrolment as assignments and supplementary materials are going to be uploaded to Moodle. - Attendance and active participation in classes (only two absences allowed). - Completing assignments in time. - Mid-term examination written at the university. - Final examination written at the university. - Regular TUL email check since that is the quickest way your teacher can contact you. In order to pass, the student must obtain at least 70% from each of the assignments and tests. These items can be rewritten only once. Grading system - Class attendance 5% - Active class participation 5% - Assignments 20% - Mid-term test written at the university 20% - Final test written at the university 50%
