Learning outcomes
Students will become familiar with the subject and methods of microbiology, strengthen the position of microorganisms in the system of living nature and learn the activities in the microbiology laboratory.
Students will learn about the structure of viruses and bacterial cells, their systematic classification with emphasis on disease-causing species and species important to industry and agriculture. They will learn the structure and importance of biofilms and antibiotic treatment, master different ways of inoculating bacteria, and learn about methods of cultivating bacteria including microbiological soils. They will draw up a protocol from the results of their laboratory work with various assignments.
Prerequisites

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined examination, Test

Students will learn about the structure of viruses and bacterial cells, their systematic classification with emphasis on disease-causing species and species important for industry and agriculture. They will learn the structure and importance of biofilms and antibiotic treatment. In the microbiology laboratory exercise, students will learn different ways of inoculating bacteria, and learn about methods of culturing bacteria including microbiological soils. They will develop a protocol from the results of the laboratory work with various assignments. Students will independently study selected groups of bacteria classified in terms of cell wall staining and their ability to survive adverse conditions. They will also deepen their knowledge of the microflora of the human skin. Processing of laboratory protocols from each exercise.
