Learning outcomes
Students will understand the historical development of animal classification.
Students will gain an overview of the evolution and classification of animals, the characteristics of major taxonomic groups, and their ecological significance.

Students will be introduced to an overview and current understanding of invertebrate and vertebrate phylogeny. They will reinforce the characteristics, distribution, biology, ecology, and practical significance of each group with an emphasis on origin, evolution, and relationships. In addition, they will review and study the string beetle system with reference to the Central European fauna and phylogenetic evolution. Students will develop characteristics of selected groups of animals based on their typical representatives. Credit is awarded for active participation in seminars and for the elaboration of laboratory protocols.
