Course content
Lectures: 1. Introduction to anthropology - definition, division, use, types of material, sources of historical anthropological material. 2. Osteology - basics of skeletal anatomy, bone tissue, difference between human and animal bones. 3. Osteology - sex determination in human skeletal remains. 4. Osteology - determination of age and height in human skeletal remains. 5. Living man - somatoscopy, determination of somatotype and anthropometry. 6. Basics of forensic anthropology and trichology. 7. Anthropogenetics.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Laboratory work, Lecture, Practicum
  • Class attendance - 8 hours per semester
  • Preparation for laboratory testing; outcome analysis - 4 hours per semester
  • Preparation for exam - 40 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The course introduces students to physical anthropology as a science, its divisions, applications and basic methods. Through lectures and practical exercises, students will learn about the possibilities of studying human skeletal remains, the methods and procedures used in anthropological research, and what can be discovered through them. Students will also learn about methods of assessing the physical characteristics of living humans and how they can be used in practice, and gain insight into forensic (forensic) anthropology and trichology (examining hair and hairs). The last area will be anthropogenetics as a modern interdisciplinary field and the possibilities of its application in practice.

Oral exam

Oral exam. Credit will be awarded on the basis of active participation in the exercises and preparation of reports.
