Course content

Lectures: 1. Characteristics, system and ecology of parasites. 2. Protozoa - parasitic amoebae, flagellates and spores. 3. Helminths I - flukes, tapeworms, borers 4. Helminths II - helminths, stringworms, leeches 5. Parasitic arthropods - crustaceans, mites, insects 6. Parasitic vertebrates 7. Parasitic plants and fungi Exercise: Laboratory exercises build on lecture topics.

Learning outcomes
|
The student will learn the basic concepts and terminology of parasitology, including an understanding of the position of parasites in an ecosystem. In particular, the student will learn about medically and economically important parasitic representatives and the diseases they cause. A general overview of vertebrate, plant and fungal parasites is also included.

|
Oral exam, Oral presentation of self-study
Oral exam. Credit will be awarded on the basis of active participation in the exercises, preparation of reports and presentation of a paper on a selected topic.
