Course content
Lectures: 1. Introduction to the topic. The relationship between theory and practice. Nature as an object of interest. Objectives of science education. General aims: Science literacy / working with the gifted. 2. Didactics of biology and its position in the field of educational sciences. History of didactics of biology and biology teaching, our eminent didacticians. 3. Transfer of biological knowledge and competences into pupils' consciousness I - knowledge, skills. 4. Transfer of biological knowledge and competences into the consciousness of pupils II - motivation, attitudes. 5. Transfer of biological knowledge and competences into pupils' consciousness III - values, interests. 6. Results of Czech pupils in the field of biology. Scientific literacy. International surveys TIMSS, PISA. 7. Communication in science and biology classes. Non-verbal communication and its classification. Congruence. Verbal communication. Specifics of communication about nature. 8. Didactic principles (principles) of biology didactics I. 9. Didactic principles (principles) of biology didactics II. 10. Didactic principles (principles) of didactics of biology III. 11. Research attributes of didactics of biology. Simultaneously researched topics, defended diploma and bachelor theses. Preparation of research projects. Research design, research questions, research objectives, working with literature. 12. Qualitative approach in data acquisition and analysis. Topics of bachelor and master theses in didactics of biology solved by qualitative methods. Research project proposals I. 13. Quantitative approach in data acquisition and analysis. Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce the problems of the didactics of biology and related research attributes. The lectures first deal with the history and the present of biology didactics, focusing on the transfer of biological knowledge and competences into the consciousness of students, investigations to ascertain the results of biological education, communication in science and biology classes, and didactic principles. In addition, the lectures address research attributes of biology didactics and during the practicum they guide students to develop research project proposals in the field of biology didactics.
