Learning outcomes
The course will focus on the practical aspects of ornithology, species identification, and various methods of research and monitoring in individual biotopes. The lectures and exercises build on the knowledge students have acquired in previous courses (Fundamentals of Animal Systematics for Nature Conservation and Zoology and Animal Ecology). The introductory lectures will deepen students' knowledge of the systematics of the group, followed by the characteristics of individual ecological groups of birds. The lectures cover the following topics: methods of determining abundance, spatial and temporal variability of abundance and distribution of birds in the field, population dynamics, food and feeding ecology, reproductive biology, migration, issues of bird conservation and their environment at the international and national levels. Current knowledge and methodological approaches are discussed in each topic.
