Course content
1. Beginnings of modern architecture at the turn of the XIX. and XX. C.: Chicago school, The Arts and Crafts Movement 2. Otto Wagner's school, Belgian and French Art Nouveau, 3. Bauhaus and housing exhibitions in Stuttgart, Wroclav, and Vienna 4. De Stijl and interwar Netherland architecture 5. The pre-war work of Le Corbusier 6. Russian avant-garde, Italian rationalism and totalitarian regimes 7. The Czech architecture of the 1920s and 1930s 8. Mies van der rohe and the international style. 9. The post-war work of Le Corbusier; sculptural tendencies in architecture and brutalism. 10. Alvar Aalto and organic architecture 11. Archigram, high tech 12. Louis Kahn. Period criticism of the modern style and the tendencies of post-modern architecture 13. The post-war Czech architecture 14. Conclusion of the course

Learning outcomes
This cycle of lectures acquaints the students with the history of architecture from the beginning of the 20th century until the present time, introducing the most important figures an works of this period, including theories of architecture.The course helps the students find their bearings in the complex developments of the discipline during this period both locally and abroad.
Ability to analyze sources of contemporary architecture.
