The course is focused on monitoring changes in the appearance of cities and public space, especially in the Euro-Atlantic cultural environment. It deals with several insights: it monitors important public buildings, eventually, constructions that have had an obvious impact on the shared space cities; at the same time, it is clear that it is not possible to look only at individual buildings and it is necessary to pay attention to the organization of the space between houses. A logical part is following the history and strategies of involving art in public space. The lectures focus on various solutions to the crisis of traditionally conceived cities: they present both utopian and totalitarian ideas about the future of cities. Similarly, time is devoted to the historical overview of individual settlements or trends. Great emphasis is placed on the present, when information flows and global capitalism is transforming the face of landscapes and cities. Students will be invited to participate actively on the basis of some texts by chosen authors of the 20th and 21st centuries.
