Course content
The period of postmodern architecture as a response to the crisis of late modern art. Aldo Rossi, the theory of permanent monuments. C. Norbert - Schulz, new evaluation of architectonic archetypes and the meaning of the location. Its influence on architectonic way of thinking. Influence of the visual art on the architectonic form. G.de Chirirco, K. Malevič, P. Mondrian, K. Schwiters and others. A competition of bids for the LaVillette district in Paris: deconstructivism, B.Tchumi, Eisenman, Koolhaas. Návrh Leona Kriera; the enlightened concept of a city. The return to the traditional concept of a city; criticism of modern approaches. The ways in which the PM tendences influenced the construction of new cities in France. Marne-la-Vallée, St. Quentin-en-Yvelines, Cergy-Pontoise. The new tendencies in architecture since 1970s. High-tech, deconstructivism, minimalism. Biomorphism - S. Calatrava. Centres: Netherlands, Austria, Spain. The contemporary Japanese architecture. An educational trip to an architectonic exhibition

Learning outcomes
The seminar is especially focused on architecture at the turn of the 20th Century. Emphasis is on first-hand experience of prominent Czech architectural works and thorough familiarisation with some of the world-renowned works.

A workshop paper on an assigned topic; the knowledge of the curriculum covered in lectures.
