Course content
1. Introduction to regional economics - concepts, actors, role of regions as active actors 2. Space in economics 3. Localisation theories and factors 4. Spatial and settlement structure 5. Agglomeration and agglomeration effects 6. Factors affecting the economic structure of regions 7. Sectoral characteristics of firms 8. Methods of regional analysis 9. Working with data and using big data for regional development 10. Specifics of regional economies of border and peripheral regions 11. The importance of incentive programmes for actors active in the regional economy 12. Examples of good practice from the EU 13. Examples of good practice from the Czech Republic 14. Defence of seminar papers

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the fundamentals of regional economics and their intersections with economic geography and regional development. In the seminars, students will be directed to present their term paper in which they focus on the analysis of a specific example from the Czech Republic, demonstrating their skills in the field.
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme.
Prerequisites
General knowledge to the extent of secondary school is assumed.
