Course content
1. Market mechanism and its operation. 2. Elasticity of supply and demand, market equilibrium 3. Theory of utility and consumer behaviour 4. Theory of production and marginal product, Izoquant analysis 5. Cost analysis 6. Perfect competition 7. Imperfect competition 8. Labour market and labour union 9. Macroeconomic output 10. Consumption, saving and investment 11. Money, currency, inflation 12. Unemployment, natural rate of unemployment and Phillips curve 13. Economic growth and business cycle 14. Monetary and fiscal policy

Learning outcomes
The subject Basics of Economics is an introduction to economic theory, or microeconomics and macroeconomics. The first part of the course deals with the analysis of microeconomic problems, enabling the creation of a comprehensive picture leading to the rational behavior of an economic entity in the market environment and the ability to draw conclusions resulting from selected microeconomically oriented theories. The content of the second part of the course is an explanation of the basic conceptual apparatus, principles and interactions between individual processes and phenomena in macroeconomic reality. Emphasis is placed on the ability to analyze economic problems and orientation in possible economic and political measures of state institutions.
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme.
