Applications in school environments. Exercise topics Web maps and their use as a teaching tool (e.a. Maps.cz and Google Maps). Digital storytelling and story maps: use of ArcGIS StoryMaps. Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to develop the professional competencies of future geography teachers in fostering pupils' map-related and digital geographic skills at lower and upper secondary levels. The course is didactically oriented and demonstrates how geoinformatics technologies can be used to support map reading, analysis, interpretation and map creation as key components of geographic thinking. Students learn to meaningfully utilise digital environments and tools, such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, and Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), to enhance pupils' digital geographic competence and critical thinking. The course also includes work with innovative approaches, such as 3D printing and digital map-based storytelling, as well as the implementation of a field-based geographic project supported by digital technologies. Emphasis is placed on the didactic transformation of disciplinary geographic content into learning activities applicable in school practice. Link to Key Competencies of Graduates in Teacher Education 1.2 - I didactically mediated subject content to pupils The course develops students' ability to transform geographic and geoinformatics content into comprehensible learning situations focused on the development of pupils' map skills. Students learn to work didactically with maps, spatial data and digital tools in ways that support understanding of geographic phenomena. 2.1 - I set instructional goals and support pupils in setting their own learning goals The course guides students in formulating instructional objectives that aim to develop geographic thinking and digital geographic competence. Learning tasks foster reflection on learning processes and awareness of pupils' own progress. 6.2 - I work responsibly with information and digital tools, and guide pupils toward democratic values and professional ethics The course strengthens a critical approach to working with spatial data, maps and digital technologies, including reflection on their limitations and interpretative risks. Students learn to guide pupils toward responsible, ethical and critical use of digital geographic tools.
