Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to develop advanced digital and geographic competencies of students of Applied Geography through theoretical foundations and practical applications of Remote Sensing within Geographic Information Systems. Building on prior knowledge in GIS, cartography and project-oriented courses, the course focuses on independent and critical work with remote sensing data in a regional and cross-border context, with particular emphasis on the Liberec region. Students learn to acquire, select and evaluate remote sensing data from existing, predominantly open-access sources (e.g. Landsat, Sentinel), as well as through their own data acquisition using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), including field campaign planning and reflection on legal and ethical aspects. The acquired data are pre-processed, analysed and interpreted with attention to spatial and temporal patterns, uncertainties and methodological limitations. The outputs are understood as decision-support materials for applications in urban and landscape planning, climate strategies and other fields of applied geography. The course enhances the ability to integrate technical remote sensing workflows with geographic interpretation and the effective communication of results.
