The course Didactics of Geography II (DIDGII) builds on DIDGI and focuses on a more concrete and detailed approach to teaching. While the first part of the course emphasized general principles, objectives, and broader contexts of geographical education, this follow-up course primarily concentrates on practical methods and strategies for teaching geography. The course is designed as a core component of the professional preparation of future geography teachers at lower-secondary and upper-secondary schools. It builds on the knowledge and skills acquired in UDGN, DIDGI, and teaching practica, further developing them toward practical issues of everyday geography instruction. Students learn to design and plan lessons in accordance with curricular documents and requirements, to reflect on current educational trends, and to select appropriate teaching methods and approaches with regard to the age and individual needs of pupils. The seminars are structured as a combination of short interactive inputs and practically oriented exercises. Students analyze model teaching situations, design and present their own didactic solutions, work with a variety of geographical information sources, and learn to critically reflect on their pedagogical experiences. The course is grounded in the principles of constructivist pedagogy and places emphasis on active participation, independent work, collaboration, and self-reflection.
