Thematic Blocks: (1) Introductory information: presentation of the department and the concept of university-level study; course requirements and course structure; geographical icebreaker; diagnostic test (2) Basic conceptual framework of geography: working with geographical concepts (3) Fundamental geographical concepts, phenomena, and processes: understanding geography in context (4) Spatial knowledge and relationships: maps of the world, Europe, and the Czech Republic; creation of mental maps (5) Entry test and presentation of group projects

Learning outcomes
|
The course Introduction to the Study of Geography pursues four key objectives: (1) To practice and verify students' basic geographical knowledge and skills that are essential for their successful continuation of geography studies at the Department of Geography, Faculty of Education, TUL. (2) To introduce students to key geographical concepts as well as current geographical trends and methods, and to present them with a new and broader perspective on the discipline of geography. (3) To develop fundamental geographical skills through the implementation of a group-based field project focused on the collection of primary data. (4) To support active mutual communication and teamwork among students.

Prerequisites
|
Basic geographical knowledge and skills, and the ability to think geographically in accordance with the requirements of the Framework Educational Programme for Upper-Secondary Schools.
