The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with the general principles of natural hazards and physio-geographical aspects of their risks to society. Part of the lectures is devoted to general patterns common to all types of natural hazards occurring in the landscape. As part of the lectures, topics dealing with the types of natural hazards and their interconditionality, patterns of their temporal and spatial distribution, risk analysis, issue of their inventory and consequences for human society, are subsequently discussed. Natural hazards are further characterized as a part of the physio-geographic sphere process in relation to global changes and discussed from the point of view of the international strategy of their research. In the second part of the lecture block, attention is focused on individual types of natural hazards and risks for society. Concrete specifics of individual processes are consecutively characterized in terms of their starting factors, impacts and consequences and their possible elimination (possible protective measures). Part of the lectures are represented by a number of case studies of extreme natural disasters uccuring in Czechia and various regions of the world, incl. comparison of their impact to other historical events. Final part of the lecture block is devoted to the study the vulnerability for society and the management of individual risks. Part of the subject proceed in English, while the key sources of information are represented by a foreign scientific literature.
