Course content
The map as a communication tool - a thematic map as the result of authorial decisions and the relationship between the topic, target audience, purpose, and map content. Topic, target audience, and map format - the influence of the target audience and format (printed map, digital map, social media) on the visual appearance, style, and mode of communication of a thematic map. The visual language of thematic maps - working with composition, symbolism, color, and text in relation to the intended message. From data to map - data selection, analysis, and interpretation, and decision-making about what should be represented in the map. Group semester project - design, production, presentation, and defense of a thematic map in A1 format.

Learning outcomes
The course deepens the existing knowledge of the basics of cartography and analyzes the individual parts of the creation of a map work in thematic cartography.
Knowledges upgrade of subject cartography and topography. Aplication of knowledges to working out given map outputs

Assessment methods and criteria
Presentation of acquired experience via portfolio

Mandatory attendance at seminars, with up to two excused absences allowed. Continuous completion of in-class assigned tasks and defense of a group semester project (map composition).
