Course content
1. Introduction. Habsburg Monarchy during the rule of Joseph II. His reforms and its significance. The base of the so-.called national awakening. 2. Czech lands during the French Revolution and Napoleonic wars. 3. Czech lands in the pre-March period (1815-1847) 4. Revolution of 1848 in Austria and Czech lands (Part I). Czech policy in 1848, the origins of Czech-German conflict 5. Revolution of 1848 in Austria and Czech lands (Part II). Preparation of the constitution, dissolution of the Kroměříž Diet, Stadion´s constitution 6. Czech lands in the period of neoabsolutism (Bach´s absolutism) 7. Czech lands in the period of constitutional experiments. October Diploma, February Constitution (1861). Czech policy in the 1860´s . Austrian-Hungarian Compromise. 8. Czech lands after Austrian-Hungarian Compromise (part I). Austrian and Hungarian concept of the solution of nationality question. Political, economical, cultural and social development. 9. Learning outcomes
The course examines Czech history from the Enlightenment until the foundation of Czechoslovakia.
Students will gain knowledge about the history of the Czech lands in the Habsburg Empire and Europe in the period from the late 18th century until 1918.
Prerequisites
Fulfilment of previous study obligations, basic knowledge of the events and personalities over the Czech history.

Oral exam
