Course content
Abstract: The aim of this subject is introduction of development of the glass industry and costume jewellery from the second half of the nineteenth century until now. Attention is given to the development of the glass and jewellery sector, particularly in Czech countries and the North Bohemia and special focus on the North Bohemia production regions. History of glass and costume jewellery will be understood and presented not only as a part of the development of history of material culture, but also as a specific socio-cultural phenomenon - within the context of the Czech economic and social history with special focus on history of entrepreneurs, regional history and history of science and technology. Thematic definition: Thematic definition: 01) Glass production and trade in the first half of the 19th century, major companies and personalities of North Bohemia 02) Glass production and trade in the second half of the 19th century, major companies and personalities of North Bohemia 03) Production and export of jewellery in the 19th century, major companies and sectors 04) Glass production and trade in the first half of the 20th century, major companies and personalities of northern Bohemia, the impact of world wars, displacement, nationalization, socialization 05) Production and export of jewelry in the first half of the 20th century, important sectors and companies, the impact of world wars, displacement, nationalization, socialization 06) Glass production and trade from the late 20th century to the present, most important companies and personalities of northern Bohemia, national enterprises, privatization, private firms 07) Production and export of jewellery in the second half of the 20th century to the present, most important companies and personalities of northern Bohemia, national enterprises, privatization, private firms

Learning outcomes
The aim of this subject is introduction of development of the glass industry and costume jewellery from the second half of the nineteenth century until now. Attention is given to the development of the glass and jewellery sector, particularly in Czech countries and the North Bohemia and special focus on the North Bohemia production regions. History of glass and costume jewellery will be understood and presented not only as a part of the development of history of material culture, but also as a specific socio-cultural phenomenon - within the context of the Czech economic and social history with special focus on history of entrepreneurs, regional history and history of science and technology.
Students will become familiar with the overall development of glass and jewelry production from the 19th century to the present.
Prerequisites
Before enlisting subjects marked as II or III student has to pass same subjects with mark I or II.

Oral exam

Active attendance on discussions (lessons); fulfilment of homework; passing a test successfully; study of recommended literature
