Course content
The subject presents the beginning and development of book creation from the end of the 15th century to the beginning of the 19th century. It focuses on the explanation of the terminology of typography and bookbinding. Problems with financing the prints, their technical processing as well as the social impact of the increased reproduction of information are demonstrated on examples of selected printers. Students are introduced to valuable spiritual records of book culture from Renaissance to Classicism preserved in Czech libraries with the focus on old and precious prints in the museum and libraries in Liberec. Learning outcomes
The subject presents the beginning and development of book creation from the end of the 15th century to the beginning of the 19th century. It focuses on the explanation of the terminology of typography and bookbinding. Students will learn the origins and evolution of Czech book design from the late 15th the early 19th century, bookbinding and printing legacy terminology in the creation and processing of books and crafts as a specific field.
Prerequisites
Fulfilment of previous study obligations, knowledge of Czech history, culture and history.
