Course content
Abstract: The main aim of this course is a comprehensive introduction to the influence and impact of monotheistic religion in the history of Western civilization. The course, which is structured as a clock hour lecture and exercises, provides students with the basic features of the three major religions, affecting the western world, their differences even within each religion (especially Christianity), will monitor the most important consequences of religion for political, economic, social and cultural history and its influence on contemporary civilization, in the context of a decline in the 18 to 20 century course will explore the nature of and reasons for Western secularization and the changed role of religion in the contemporary world. Seminars will be given a guided discussion of topics, student papers, or movie demonstrations. 01) The basis classification and comparison of monoteistic systems and its impacts on history of Western Europe I: Christianity 02) The basis classification and comparison of monoteistic systems and its impacts on history of Western Europe II: judaism and islam 03) Catholicism versus reformation: the main aspects of religious development in the 16th and 17th century 04) Secular or Christian Europe: dechristianization versus continuing influence of religion in the Western world in the 18th and 19th century 05) Christianity and nationalism in Western societies 06) Role of anti-Judaism and anti-Semitism in European and world history 07) The religious fundamentalism as the phenomenon of history of Western civilization I: Christianity 08 The religious fundamentalism as the phenomenon of history of Western civilization II: judaism and islam 09) The role of political catholicism and papacy in European history of the 20th century 10) Orthodoxy and its impact on modern Russian history 11) The challenges and problems of the contemporary inter-religious dialogue 12) Multicultural Western civilization and the contemporary problems of religious minorities 13) Presentation of the chosen movie relating to this issue and the discussion about it 14) Summary

Learning outcomes
The main aim of this lecture is complex analysis of the influence and impacts of monoteistic religions on history of Western civilization.
Students are completely familiar with the impact and consequences of monotheistic religion in the history of Western civilization.
Prerequisites
Fulfilment of previous study obligations, knowledge of general history of old and modern.

Oral exam
