Course content
1) Aristocracy as a phenomenon (Europe and Czech kingdom). Terminology 2) Establishment of the medieval aristocracy and Czech and Moravian noble families 3) Medieval aristocracy and its residencies, cultural representation 4) Aristocracy of Czech lands in the early modern ages 5) Selfpresentation of aristocracy in early modern age - residencies 6) Selfpresentation of aristocracy in early modern age - burial-ground 7) Selfpresentation of aristocracy in early modern age - sources 8) Aristocracy in Habsburk monarchy in 19th century and "new aristocracy" 9) Faiths of aristocrats in 20th century (1918-1948) 10) Noble families during socialism (1948-1989): life stories 11) Embracement of the nobility after 1989 12) Czech nobility in literature, media and 20th and 21th century. 13) Field trip 14) Discussion

Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing)

Learning outcomes
Lecture is focused on the role of the aristocracy from medieval ages to modern times, its manners and impact of its self presentation. The reception of the nobles by their highborn fellows, general population, contemporary laic population and professionals is going to be discussed as well. It is going to analyse the auto and hetero stereotypes, perception of nobleness and its effects during the early modern age. Our students will familiarize themselves with lineage social strategies on the example of chosen individuals.
It corresponds to the definition of the subject and to the demands given in syllabus.
