Course content
01) The origin of christianity and its development from beginnings of Apostolic church until the publication of Edict of Milan 02) Christianity during its change into the state religion of the late Roman empire 03) Migration period - Barbarians and Romans 04) Byzantine empire between Antique tradition and medieval transformation 05) The origin of islam, Arab expansion and its confrontation with Christian Europe 06) Kingdom of Franks - from Clovis till heirs of heritage of Charles the Great 07) Anglo-Saxons and Vikings and their entry to the European history 08) The beginnings of medieval Roman Empire and the origin of another Christian states of medieval Europe 09) Christian West and difficult seeking of balance between profane and spiritual power 10) New horizons - crusades, reconquista, medieval pious wanderings. Jews as etnic and religious minority in Christian Europe 11) Political consolidation and economic rise of Christian West after 1000 12) Medieval state in the Central, Southeastern and Eastern Europe 13) Medieval universalism - Roman and early Gothic culture and education 14) Europe in the period of late Middle Ages

Learning outcomes
The aim of this lecture is to analyze the actual state of knowledge in some key topics of the early modern medieval history, such as christianity, migration period etc.
It corresponds to the definition of the subject and to the demands given in syllabus.
