Course content
|
The subjects deals with the crisis of the communist system in Czechoslovakia in the years 1968 - 1969. The beginning of the course deals with the roots of the so called Prague Spring, it means the development after February 1948, mainly in the 60s, when the regime was gradually liberated. The focus of the course is represented by the analysis of political and social development after the fall of the regime of Antonín Novotný in January 1968. The individual streams within the Communist Party, discussions about political and economic reforms, international political aspects of the Czech reform atempt are presented. Attention is devoted to the occupation of Czechoslovakia in August 1968 and the mass resistance to it in the society. The last part of the course is devoted to the withdrawal of the management of the Communist Party and the state from the reforms and the election of Gustav Husák the general secretary. |
Student's performance analysis
Fulfillment of assigned tasks; elaboration of a paper; filling in a questionnaire with questions devoted to the Prague Spring.
