Course content
|
Abstract: The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with the global development of the glass industry from the Middle Ages until the recent times. The attention is given to development of particular branches of the glass industry directed mainly on the Czech countries. The Glass history is presented as a part of development of a material-culture history. Thematic definition: 01) Introduction - basic terminology (raw materials, processing techniques, technologies and refining), periods of development history of glass in relation to the history of material culture and artistic styles. 02) The development of glass art from antiquity to the Middle Ages. 03) Glass crafts during the Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo. 04) glass crafts in the nineteenth century. 05) Glass Art Nouveau and the time period between the world wars. 06) glass art and design in 2 mid-20th century. 07) Czech glass sculpture.

Students will become familiar with the overall development of glassmaking since the Middle Ages to modern times.

Fulfilment of previous study obligations, knowledge of Czech history and art history.

|
Oral exam
Active attendance on discussions (lessons); fulfilment of homework; passing a test successfully; study of recommended literature.
